The Detroit Emeralds

(September 14, 2019) Back in 1966, brothers Abe and Ivory Tillman and James Mitchell recorded the single “Showtime,” and thus began the legendary careers of The Detroit Emeralds. Their label, Ric Tic, later became a part of Motown, and Marvin Willis joined the group, replacing Abe, and The Detroit Emeralds began their productive years touring the US supporting such acts as Sammy Davis, Jr. and James Brown.
The Detroit Emeralds, with more personnel changes, went on to score more than a dozen chart hits in the 1970s, including “Do Me Right,” “You Want It, You Got It” and “Feel The Need In Me.” By the end of the decade the group split, but left a legacy of great soul hits.

A new generation of Detroit Emeralds is now in place, with LaVel Jackson, Eddie Cameron and Dewayne Loc Lomax.
